Sustainability at BreakFree Adelaide

Here at BreakFree Adelaide we are committed to embedding sustainability into every facet of our daily operations. We recognise that sustainability is an ongoing journey and are continually striving to reduce our carbon footprint wherever possible. Below are some of the initiatives we have implemented to date.

Dry Amenities

We are delighted to share our ongoing commitment to reducing single-use plastics in our guest rooms. As part of this initiative, we have made a significant decision to eliminate single-use dry amenities, taking a bold step towards a plastic-free environment. By removing single-use plastic amenities such as toothbrushes, combs, and shower caps from our guest rooms, we are significantly reducing our environmental footprint. Instead, guests can request dry amenities by calling or visiting our friendly team at reception.

Large Amenities

As part of our ongoing efforts, we have made the proactive decision to move to large format amenities, replacing our single-use plastic common amenities with eco-friendly pump dispensers throughout the hotel. By eliminating single-use plastic bottles, we are significantly reducing the amount of waste generated by our operations. This commitment aligns with our dedication to environmental stewardship and reflects our ongoing efforts to improve sustainability in all aspects of our hotel.

Recycling

At BreakFree Adelaide, all hotel waste is separated into co-mingle, cardboard, and general waste, minimising our impact on landfill.  In addition, we have taken a number of steps to further reduce water and embrace a circular system.

  • We have replaced the water bottles that we give to our loyalty members and sell in our lobby shop with a product called WaterBox. This is a product that is made of sustainably sourced materials and is a plant-based product. Due to this change we no longer supply any single use plastic water bottles.
  • We have moved to using sustainable key cards for access into rooms. These are made from different wood materials like bamboo and black walnut. Using these cards reduces the use of plastic and is better for the environment as the wood that is used is biodegradable.
  • We offer Advanced Saver rates which include a weekly housekeeping service. The reduction of housekeeping services reduces resources such as water, energy and cleaning supplies. This minimises the environmental impact associated with daily cleaning activities.

Community Support

We are committed to maintaining strong connections with our local community and give back wherever possible.

  • We donate our no longer required soft beddings to a local shelter, Angle Care Port Adelaide.
  • We support socks for a safe house via the DV Collective. We are supporting the fight against Domestic or Family Violence by purchasing these socks as loyalty gifts.
  • We donate our lost property to St Vincent or Second Chance monthly to insure left behind items can be utilised again.

Acknowledgment of Country

We would like to acknowledge the Kaurna people as the custodians of the lands and waters of the Adelaide region, on which we meet today. We pay respects to Elders past, present and future.
